Could X-Men be set for Disney’s streaming service?

January 19th, 2019 by Marc Comments

So we’re all wondering how exactly the X-Men will fit into the MCU moving forward as the merger between Disney and Fox is pretty much in the bag and the rights for the characters will come over to Disney in March.

However, we’ve al been looking at the big screen, but maybe Disney has different plans – maybe they’ll be using the X-Men – and Fantastic Four – teams to make their new streaming service, Disney + – stand out.

We know that Vision and The Scarlet Witch, Winter Soldier and Falcon, Loki and maybe Lady Sif will all be getting their own series but could there be bigger plans ahead.

“It seems that execs are casting the net even further than that and are also considering developing multiple TV series based on the X-Men universe,” reports WGTC.

“Marvel’s already tossing around potential ideas for X-Men-related series to go up on Disney Plus. Obviously, it’s too early for anything official to happen and apparently, they’re parking these ideas until they can move forward with them once the deal goes through.

“It’s unclear what this means right now for the duo of X-Men TV series currently on the air: Fox’s The Gifted and FX’s Legion. It’s understood that Disney’s buyout will include the purchase of the Fox network though, meaning the former could be at risk. However, FX is expected to fall outside the purchase, which means that Legion might escape the influence of Disney and be able to run its course naturally.”

We actually like this idea -the X-Men is such a big tale, to us it feels like it would be better told in the very longform.

But how will they come into the MCU? We were thinking about the too…

In Ant-man And The Wasp, Janette Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) described the abilities she got in the quantum realm felt like an evolution.

Evolution is a curious word, as it’s usually used in the comics in reference to the X-Men’s mutations. And since we know that Avengers: Endgame will involve time-travel, so we’re wondering if, after all this, mutation and evolution will be in the MCU because using the Quantum Realm to time travel – likely by Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) – will expose the past to the energy, changing the world and introducing Professor Xavier and the gang to the world.

We also hear that there was a plan to release Deadpool after X-force by Fox as Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had this to say:

“According to the chronology that we’ve established, X-Force will be next, before Deadpool 3. It’s a bit of the ‘Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3’ model, in that sense. X-Force isn’t being written by us. It’s being written and directed by Drew Goddard, or at least that’s the plan right now. We’re not involved with that one.

We do anticipate there will be a Deadpool 3 at some point, but it’s just a little premature, because it will definitely take a backseat to X-Force for the time being. We’re constantly in touch with Ryan, and we’re always throwing ideas back and forth via text and phone conversations. So, it’s always at the front of our minds. We’ll get there when the time is right, but as of right now, X-Force is next up.”

But we’ve reported that X-Force is likely dead (here), so we don’t think we’ll ever see any of this. Which is a shame as Deadpool 2 was in our top five movies of last year.
