Daisy Ridley believes her time is finished in the Star Wars galaxy

July 1st, 2019 by Marc Comments

So, a few days ago I reported that Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker himself, said he hopes he’s done with Star Wars after The Rise Of Skywalker comes out this Christmas (full story and interview here) and now it seems another star of the new franchise is wrapped up for good now too.

Daisy Ridley first appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015 as Rey, the new face of the franchise and she was warmly received by the fans. She returned for the – less warmly received – The Last Jedi and her character did take some flack.

However, it was never Ridley who took the flack but rather Rey – and through no fault of the actress’. Here character has been pretty underdeveloped in the franchise so far with next to nothing of her background developed which makes her ability to do everything a tough pill to swallow… a ‘Mary Sue’ I believe is the term used.

But Ridley herself seems to be a lovely person, is a solid actress and has the ability – with the right material – to be a worthwhile part of the Star Wars saga but, just as poor Finn (John Boyega) became almost a joke in Rian Johnston’s The Last Jedi, Ridley has not been given the material she deserves.

But now the actress seems like she too is done with Star Wars after the release of the newest entry in the sage this year: “I can’t actually imagine it right now,” Ridley said.

“The ending to Rise of Skywalker … it’s very satisfying. It felt like an end. I don’t know what’ll happen in however many years. There are so many characters in the Star Wars world who’ve never been explored. There’s so much for the filmmakers to work on. So right now, I don’t think so. But who could say, really? An opportunity might present itself.

“I love how the movie hasn’t come out and people are like, ‘What about going forward?’ Right now, it feels like a really nice full stop on the Skywalker series.”

We knew already that the next few movies to come out would be a separate corner of the Star Wars universe and wouldn’t feature any of the current cast, with Ridley saying:“I mean, I can say I’m not in the next trilogy… they always said it was going to be a separate story. So I’m not. No.”

But from her new comments it sounds like the star is done with Star Wars altogether which is a shame because she did deserve better than she got in The Last Jedi… hopefully she gets it in The Rise of Skywalker.

What say you all? Let me know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
