Dark Tower movie concept art appears online…

June 26th, 2014 by Marc Comments

If there is one series of books that I want, nay need, to see adapted it’s Stephen King’s The Dark tower Saga. It is without a doubt one of the most epic stories committed to paper, making Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones seem like a neighbourhood skirmish.

The problem with it is that, because it’s so massive it would actually need to be lifted by someone like HBO. However, that’s probably not going to happen as Ron Howard is still hoping to direct the first movie with sequels and a TV series to come after, all being written by Akiva Goldsman.

Now, Aintitcool have posted artwork – supposed concept art – by Gregory Hill that seems to portray some key locations from the story.

Now, some of it looks fine, some of it looks a little off (but things will never look as you imagined) but very, very concerning is the portrayal of Susannah who seems to have legs…

In the books Suzannah is a gunslinger who lost her legs at an early age and uses a wheelchair – and yes, I know she does technically regain her legs in the sixth book but I don’t think that’s what we’re seeing here – but the loss of her legs isn’t just for the sake of it, it lies at the core of who she is and what her role is in the saga.

Is this just an oversight by Hill? Or is it an effort to save money? This does trouble me quite a bit.

That said, the Thinny (above) and the town of Tull, The Dogan and the Speaking Ring (below) are pretty spot-on overall…

What say you? Any Dark Tower fans out there? Let us know your thoughts in the usual ways…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
