David Beckham to cameo in Guy Richie’s King Arthur?

Guy Richie has cast David Beckham in his King Arthur movie… how do I respond to that? There is no comedic jibe that I could utter that would be more preposterous than that sentence.

Now, in fairness, it has been reported by a number of sources that Beckham’s role in the movie is more of a cameo than a leading role.

Purportedly, Beckham plays a man trying to pull Excalibur from the stone, but fails. When Arthur comes along, and is able to pull the sword with ease, he becomes angry. Throughout this scene, it is also noted that he makes multiple football-related puns.

I’ll be honest; I don’t think cameos from non-actors in films are always a bad idea. As long as the film suits the person that is going to appear in it (or if it is a film like Anchorman, where the sheer absurdity of the cameos is the entire joke). However, putting David Beckham in a medieval fantasy setting just seems bizarre to us.
