While we learned a while back that Donald Glover was returning the Community movie, the actor has finally spoken a bit about his return to the role of Troy Barnes.
Out doing the press circuit for his new Mr & Mrs Smith series, the actor chatted to ET Online about Community’s upcoming movie which actually fulfills the hit show’s ‘six seasons and a movie’ mantra
Troy’s character was part of the show’s core group for the first four seasons and it was thanks to Community, long before he was Childish Gambino, that he became a household name.
The actor revealed that he’s been in touch with the creatives of the show/movie and that the script in now complete – though he hasn’t got it yet – adding: “It’s really just a schedule thing [but] I’m in. I’m all in.”
He will join other returning cast members Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong along with creator Dan Harmon.
Having Troy back alongside Pudi’s Abed is, honestly, probably the most important part of having a Community movie – if you know, you know – so having them all back is just great news.
Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Bluesky,

See you all soon back at Greendale Community College!
In related news, the star also discussed his place in the Marvel universe having played the villainous Prowler/Aaron Davis in Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse before playing him in a brief live-action appearance in the sequel, Across the Spider-verse and he even appeared in a scene as Davis in Spider-man: Homecoming; the star was also a fan-favourite for live-action Miles Morales’ Spider-man when, in 2010, it was revealed that Spidey was joining the MCU but, alas, it didn’t pan out.
In a new interview Glover’s Mr & Mrs Smith costar Maya Erskine asked him if he thought his role as Aaron in the MCU and Spider-verse movies was “Sony’s way of apologising for not casting [him] as Spider-Man.”
“No!” Glover replies, “I don’t think they even thought about it. There’s definitely going to be like a Miles Morales live-action eventually, and I think they’re probably more concerned with me being Prowler in that or something like that. I’m too old to be Spider-Man now.”
We learned in June last year that a live-action Miles Morales movie was being developed (here) and, were I a betting man, I’d say Glover is spot on here and we will see his Aaron Davis stepping up as he main villain in the first Miles movie.
And let’s not forget that the actor also has his return as Lando Calrissian on the horizon so if, like me and the gang here at FTN HQ, you’re a fan of Glover, then there’s plenty of him coming up in the future.
