Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson does not hold back when talking about Vin Diesel or starring in the next Fast & Furious

April 4th, 2018 by Marc Comments

You may recall early last year that there were many stories and rumours of Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson clashing on the set of Fast & Furious: The Fate of the Furious (details!) with the likely explanation being that Diesel wasn’t happy that Johnson was set to have a spin-off based on his character in the franchise, Hobbs, and newcomer Deckard, played by Jason Statham.

Things got pretty dirty between the two with others like Tyrese Gibson getting involved in the mud-slinging.

However, after a while it died down and eventually it looked like all was ok between Diesel and The Rock (here) but it seems that with the spin-off set to film later this year (here), Johnson isn’t too bothered about returning to the core Fast franchise with Diesel.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, the actor said: “Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer. And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating.

“It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not… I’m not quite sure… Right now I’m concentrating on making the spinoff as good as it can be… But I wish [Vin Diesel] all the best, and I harbor no ill will there, just because of the clarity we have…

“Actually, you can erase that last part about ‘no ill will.’ We’ll just keep it with the clarity.”

While we are definitely not worried that this marks the end of the Fast franchise, we do believe it’s unlikely that we’ll see Johnson return as Hobbs… but, to be fair, the series started without him and we’re sure it can continue that way and if the spin-off is as fun as we hope, then it’s hard to deny the fans are the real winners.

Or are we being naive? Let us know…

The Fast and Furious spin off is currently slated for release on July 26th, 2019 followed by Fast and Furious 9 on April 10th, 2020
