Though the Captain Marvel movie has been made official by Marvel, there has yet to be anyone attached to the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel herself. Most likely, Marvel is trying their hardest to put someone both well known and well respected into the role.

Fans have recently noted that Emily Blunt would be a good fit for the part, to the extent that these fan wishes became a rumor, to the point where Emily Blunt herself gave thoughts on the situation

“It’s funny ‘cause I’m hearing this Captain Marvel thing from a lot of people,” Emily Blunt said. “I have no official offer, whatsoever. No one’s called. I don’t know where the hell it’s come from, in all honesty. For me, I just think that the part has gotta be awesome. I just want to play great parts, and it’s sometimes hard to find within those big superhero movies. The female parts are not usually great, but recently, they’ve been better. I don’t know. It has to be the right thing.”

So she’s not saying no, but (understandably) she wants to be sure the role is right for her, and that it really is something to be proud of. I think that’s great, after all, would you really want to play a role that you can’t be proud of?
