Well, it seems like the great Deadpool puzzle has finally been solved according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.
For some time now we’ve known that Ryan Reynolds was set to bring his loud-mouthed anti-hero into the MCU but one of the big questions has always been whether or not he would be keeping his more adult-style of humour for the Avengers universe and now, according to Feige, he will indeed.
“[Deadpool 3] will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… it will not be [filming] this year,” Feige said.
“Ryan [Reynolds] is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
This is, for many fans, a welcome bit of news, with many believing the character needs that R-rating to fully do him justice, although I still believe that the Once Upon a Deadpool release a couple of year ago which re-edited Deadpool 2 to be a bit more family-friendly, was just as fun as Deadpool 2 – I think the character can be done justice with just a mild tweaking of the humour. But that’s just my opinion.
Meawhile, fans are hoping this will mean future Marvel properties such as the upcoming Blade reboot with Mahershala Ali will be allowed to be a bit more adult-leaning than the standard MCU movies.
One other person that has hopes this may get them into the MCU is Logan star Dafne Keen who played X-23 in the X-Men spin-off. who has said she’s “100 per cent hopeful” she can play the character again.
The young star added: “I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high in case it doesn’t happen, but I really do hope it does because I loved playing Laura. She holds a very special place in my heart and she’s an incredible character.
“And to be fair, the whole Deadpool 3 situation really, really made me happy because, obviously when Disney bought Fox, I suspected they weren’t going to do any more R-rated films, but then greenlighting Deadpool is a great sign for other R-rated movies.”
Just a few months ago we’d have thought this is definitely not likely but given how many stars are coming back to the MCU from non-related Marvel movies such as Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro, and with WandaVision looking set to blow open the MCU multiverse, it’s impossible to rule out any possible returns to characters known and loved.
Full disclosure: I showed them Spiderman 1 & 2 and told them it was Deadpool 1 & 2. #Deadpool3 https://t.co/N0IGDbpBK0
