Finally! The Community movie is confirmed and heading to Peacock

September 30th, 2022 by Marc Comments

It’s finally confirmed and happening! Six seasons and a movie is no longer just a dream… the Community movie is coming!

Peacock has ordered a movie based on Dan Harmon’s hilarious, often touching, often surreal, usually brilliant series and it’s already locked in original stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong to return to Greendale Community College in 2023 after it closed its doors in 2015.

After the series sixth season ended, Abed’s, played by Pudi, prediction in the show of ‘six seasons and a movie’ became the fandom’s warcry, as we all held out hope that someday all our favourite characters would return and it looks like we’re closer than we’ve ever been.

Washed-up lawyer Jeff Winger (as played by McHale), was the defacto leader of the group, along with Abed Nadir (Pudi), Britta Perry (Jacobs), Annie Edison (Brie), Shirley Bennett (Brown), Troy Barnes (Glover), Pierce Hawthorne (Chase), plus teacher-turned-student Ben Chang (Jeong) and Greendale Dean Craig Pelton (Rash).

“Six seasons and a movie’ started out as a cheeky line from ‘Community’s early seasons and quickly ignited a passionate fan movement for this iconic, hilarious and cool (cool, cool) NBC comedy,” said Susan Rovner, chairman, entertainment content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

“We’re incredibly grateful that 15 years later, we are able to deliver fans this promised movie and can’t wait to … continue this epic comedy for Peacock audiences.”

Now, those who know the series and cast will note that not everyone is back as Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover, who played Shirley and Troy, are missing from the line-up – Chevy Chase is also missing but his character, Pierce, died during the series, so we’re not hopeful he’ll come back – but we are hopeful that both actors will yet join the line-up… having a Community movie without Pudi and Glover’s Troy and Abed just seems very, very wrong.

Just last month, Harmon gave his most concrete word that a movie was coming yet, when he said: “There is an outline for it. There’s a product put together and pitched out in the world. I guess that’s how real it is.”

We just didn’t think it would be so soon… let’s hope it was worth the eight-year wait when it arrives in 2023.

Thoughts, Human Beings, I want to hear them all…
