More news coming in from the 80s nostalgia front. As if TMNT, Transformers and the upcoming He-Man movies weren’t enough, the next of my awesome childhood memories to come back around will be the beloved Jim Henson creations of Fraggle Rock. This time the Fraggles will be making their way to the big screen.

However, the real news isn’t the Fraggles themselves, but the man behind the reboot. A report from Nerd B@~tards is saying that not only will FTN favorite Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in the flick, he’s putting his own money into the pot to produce the film along side the late Henson’s daughter, Lisa Henson.

Speaking on the project Gordon-Levitt said, “The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock. Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”

As a kid I was a serious Fraggle fan, which is why I’m excited to have JGL behind the project. Unlike all of Bay’s soulless reboots made to cash in on our childhoods, JGL’s Fraggle reboot is a true labor of love. There’s no hints of making this reboot because it’s guaranteed to separate 80s kids from their hard-earned money. It’s being made simply because Gordon-Levitt has a love for these characters and the universe they reside in. That has me excited to introduce my little boy to the Fraggles through this film. Of course, first JGL will need to clear his plate with the previously announced Sandman movie in the works. Stay tuned to FTN for all your Fraggle updates.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
