George Lucas and Samuel L Jackson both say Mace Windu is alive. So that’s canon, right?

Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. So much good and so much… not so good. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love it – it’s the best of the prequels (cue deluge) – but there’s some bits than make me cringe. And one of those is the death of Mace Windu.

I mean, he fights to the end and ‘dies’ in a reasonably satisfactory way, but there’s just something about him being electrocuted and thrown out into Coruscant’s city abyss that feels like it’s not resolved.

And now it seems that may be true as Windu himself, Samuel L Jackson, is saying that he survived and is still out there in the Star Wars universe… somewhere.

In a recent social media Q&A with fans, the actor was asked if he believes Mace is still alive and the actor showed no hesitation: “Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

He also believes his Jedi went into hiding, much like Obi-Wan did between Episodes III and IV.

But has he any reason for believing this could be part of the ‘official’ Star Wars lore? Well, he said he said it to George and  “George is like, ‘I’m okay with that. You can be alive.’”

And although he also admitted “But George doesn’t have anything to do with it anymore,” we’re going to stand by the fact that Uncle George is the master of everything pre-Force Awakens and as such, this means as far as we’re concerned, Mace Windu made it beyond Episode III. And yes, we’re wondering if we’ll ever see that story.

We doubt it… but we can hope, right?

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
