Big Ghostbusters news tonight if true as reports have it that the original cast are going to be back for new movie Ghostbusters movie, Firehouse – which is still due later this year (here)!
2021’s Ghostbusters Afterlife was the fun, emotional return to Ghostbusters that fans have wanted for so, so long and it was a big hit for Sony and opened up a whole new universe for Ghostbusters and its fans; it showed how to perfectly give us a new cast but to lovingly tie them into the legacy characters and this is something so many franchises fumble the ball on these days.
One of the undoubtedly biggest thrills for fans was not only having the original cast back – video below – but how they so wonderfully had the late Harold Ramis’ Egon Spengler return to the series in a finale that had, I assure you, we fans crying into our popcorn.
The ending of the movie left no doubt that FTN favourite Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore would be playing a big role in the next movie but a question was over Bill Murray’s Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz and Sigourney Weaver’s Dana Barrett. A question that may now be answered.
New Ghostbusters movie to film this year
The Sun (I know, I know) is reporting that Murray, Aykroyd and Weaver will be joining Hudson and the returning new cast in the movie, continuing the original gang’s story and not only that but, just like Afterlife, this one may not be – or not entirely be – set in New York, despite the last movie heading to the city and the Firehouse of the title being a reference to the Ghostbusters HQ in New York: “Studio bosses are taking a classic franchise, setting it in a new location but keeping the magic of the original. It’s going to be brilliant. Ghostbusters has always been synonymous with New York, but to mix things up this time the team was thinking of other great cities with a haunted history.
“London is perfect. It gives so much license to look back at classic landmarks and British history, but still in an urban setting.”
On getting the original star back, the scooper reports: “The plans look very cool, and getting the original stars interested wasn’t difficult. They all love the movies and look back at them very fondly.”
Chris Hemsworth feared Ghostbusters: Answer the Call would end his career
In the IDW Ghostbusters comics we were introduced to Ghostbusters International which saw the team travel all over the world busting ghosts, personally, I think this is a very exciting prospect and ties back Afterlife director Jason Reitman saying that he sees a Ghostbusters franchise with writers and directors from all over the world and from all sorts of backgrounds telling different stories featuring different types of ghosts and hauntings… this could be the start of an exciting new road for Ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters International overseen by Winston? Yes, please!
Ghostbusters: Firehouse will be directed by Gil Kenan and will also star and returning cast Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Carrie Coon.
