Remake time again, folks. Though this time, there is an interesting angle to look at this from. Over the past four years, there have been a number of attempts to remake Pet Semetary, which is a adaptation of a Stephen King story.
The film is considered to be a cult classic and has a small, but devoted, fanbase. Among this fanbase seems to be director Guillermo Del Toro. In a recent tweet, Del Toro posted, “Book of the Day: PET SEMATARY by Stephen King. Unrelentingly, dark and emotional. Compulsive reading. Would kill to make it on film.”
While normally this is where I get up on my high horse, and start saying that this should not be remade, this is an interesting prospect. Del Toro is one of the true masters of the horror genre, and seeing him tackle this project could lead to something truly special. Who knows, we may even compare this remake in the same breath as John Carpenter’s: The Thing, a film that many believe greatly surpasses the original.
