It’s not a lie that what the 2014 Godzilla film lacked was ,well, Godzilla. Only in the last half an hour is there the massive fight scene in San Diego and even then we don’t really see Godzilla in all his splendour until the very end of the film, when he gets up and walks away.
Well, there is an idea floating round that could make Godzilla the true king of monsters once more. This idea is simple: put Godzilla into the Pacific Rim universe.
What’s more amazing here is that Pacific Rim director Guillermo Del Toro is down with the idea: “So far with the sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the f#@k out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain.”
The original and traditional Godzilla films had the great beast fighting all sorts of creatures. Mostly it was a man dressed up against another man dressed up but if Hollywood ever got their hands on it, and did it properly, it might become one of the greatest things we have ever seen.
It’s just an idea for the moment. Furthermore doing a crossover could be difficult in terms of rewriting the history of Pacific Rim. Also it’s not known if there would be rights issues or if it would essentially have to be a reboot of Godzilla.
We can only hope it does come true though.
