Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby set for Scream 6?

February 7th, 2022 by Marc Comments

A few weeks back (here), we wrote an article confirming that Scream 4 character – and fan-favorite – Kirby, played by Hayden Panettiere was still alive in the Scream universe.

Yes, the movie nerd survived that one and it seems that the lingering camera on her as she lay on the ground, seemingly moving, did indeed confirm, as was Wes Craven’s plan when he made the movie, that she was still breathing, hence alive.

We know now (here) that Scream 6 has been given the go-ahead and will once again come from Radio Silence’s directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and will be once again written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Now, Gillet has addressed Kirby’s still being around as she is still a character fans want to return to the franchise and he seems to not be against the idea, in fact, Kirby was part of the plan for Scream [5]: “We reached out to Hayden,” he said.

“We always knew it’d be such a fun question to answer. We certainly know that there is a real kind of critical mass around the Kirby thing online. And for our money, she’s one of our favorite characters in the franchise. We love Hayden’s work in that fourth movie and thought it would be really fun to provide some conclusive evidence of her survival. And we reached out to her and at some point, we wanted to have her more involved.

Matthew Lillard’s Stu still alive during Scream 5? Could be…

“At the end of the day though, for a character that for us is as interesting and as fun to watch as she is, it didn’t make sense to do something small. It felt like a better way to service it for this movie was to just have a light nod. And we know the fans that care so dearly about that character would pick up on it. The second you see her face in that thumbnail, I think everyone’s like, ‘Well, sh*t. There she is.’

“Again, I think one of the fun things about the universe of these movies is the off-screen story, you know? Mark and Sidney. What’s happened to Kirby? All of that stuff for us, that’s the fuel that kind of exists in the tank once you leave the theater, and we love thinking about who these characters are outside of the stories that we see on screen.”

It really sounds like Kirby might be part of Scream’s future on the big screen and that’s just fine with us!

Did you like Kirby? Would you like to see her back? Let me know your thought, guys…
