Here’s Bill Murray’s picks for four female GhostBusters!

September 9th, 2014 by Marc Comments

It seems that over the past few years, Bill Murrays disinterest in Ghostbusters 3 has softened, especially with the latest rumours emerging of an all-female cast.

According to CinemaBlend, when asked about the reports of an all female cast in the movie. the actor said, “It’s a grand idea, I don’t know who they’re talking about, but it’s a good idea.” Of course, Mr Murray has no real involvement of any kind with the movies production, but it’s still interesting to hear who his choices would be.  While speaking to the Toronto Star at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his new movie St. Vincent, he made some interesting actress suggestions for the third film.

His first choice was The Heat and Tammy star Melissa McCarthy.  Known for playing over the top and boisterous roles she’s recently simmered down to co-star with Murray in St. Vincent.  And hey, if she gets Murrays approval then she’s got to have some talent beyond her now stereotypical roles as a loud mouthed slacker.

McCarthy’s Bridesmaids co-star Kirsten Wiig also got a look in.  I liked Bridesmaids, and especially Wiig’s performance in it.  I can easily see her being the Venkman of the new movie, the sarcastic everyman.  Or woman.

Now this choice we love – Linda Cardellini.  She’s a highly talented actress who can do comedy, and after her nerdy performance as Velma in the live action Scooby Doo movies I can’t help but think she would be the group’s Egon.  Plus she would look amazing in a jumpsuit.  Then again, she’d look amazing in a bin bag.

And rounding out Murray’s choices was his best suggestion yet – Emma Stone.  She’s got it all – looks, talent and excellent comic timing.  With her Spider-Man demands slackened (And the new movie isn’t out until 2018 anyway) this would free her up to star in the new franchise.  Being the youngest of the four ladies Stone would be the new blood of the group.  The Winston Zeddemore.  Plus we know she can deal with the paranormal after appearing in Zombieland which featured a certain cameo…

We love these choices, and perhaps if this is the new GB team maybe Bill will be tempted to do a small cameo?  Who knows?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
