Ghostbusters Day brought another surprise for fans of the franchise, as, per Deadline, the long-awaited documentary from filmmakers Anthony and Claire Bueno, Too Hot To Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II, has officially wrapped production after an eight-year journey, writes our good friend Jason at Ghostbusters News.
Serving as a follow-up to 2019’s Cleanin’ Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters, the new documentary takes a deep dive into the making of 1989’s Ghostbusters II. Among those interviewed are Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, director Ivan Reitman, and Industrial Light & Magic visual effects legend Dennis Muren.
The documentary’s production faced several hurdles throughout its development, including delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic and health complications. Despite those challenges, Anthony and Claire Bueno continued work on the project, ultimately bringing the film to completion this year. The filmmakers are currently aiming to officially launch the documentary at a film festival and/or market this fall.
New Cleanin’ Up the Town book may be the definitive Ghostbusters 1984 behind-the-scenes
Reflecting on the project’s completion, Anthony Bueno said, “It’s been an honour and a privilege to capture these interviews and finally be able to present them all to the world.”
He added that while the journey wasn’t always easy, the dedication and talents of everyone involved helped bring the documentary across the finish line, allowing it to finally be shared with Ghostbusters fans and filmmaking enthusiasts alike.
Further strengthening the documentary’s connection to Ghostbusters II, composer Randy Edelman has contributed a score for the project.
Edelman, who provided the music for the 1989 sequel, praised the filmmakers’ efforts, saying that audiences will appreciate both the documentary and its subject matter, while applauding Anthony and Claire Bueno for bringing the project to completion “against the odds of traditional Hollywood.”
Deadline also reports that Laurence Gornall’s Unannounced Film Company has acquired worldwide rights to Too Hot To Handle: Remembering Ghostbusters II. The company previously handled distribution for Cleanin’ Up The Town: Remembering Ghostbusters, which found success on both Amazon and iTunes following its release. With production now complete, fans can likely look forward to learning more about the documentary’s release plans in the months ahead.
