Just announced at the annual Ghostbusters Day celebration outside New York City’s iconic Hook & Ladder 8, the upcoming animated series for Netflix will be called Ghostbusters: Night Shift, writes Jason at Ghostbusters News.

The announcement arrives ahead of the series’ scheduled appearance at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival later this month (here), where Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are expected to offer attendees a first look at the project.

While details on the show’s story remain under wraps, several key creative figures have already been attached. Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire filmmakers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan are serving as executive producers, alongside franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd.

The series is being overseen by showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan, with animation produced by Flying Bark Productions, the studio known for its work on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Glitch Techs, and Stranger Things: Tales from ’85.

Originally announced during Ghostbusters Day 2022, the animated project has spent the last several years quietly progressing behind the scenes, with only occasional updates emerging through industry events and trade reports.

Today’s reveal marks the biggest public update on the series to date, finally giving fans both a title and a clearer idea of what’s ahead as Ghostbusters continues its return to animation.

The series is set for a 2027 release.
