Hugh Jackman shoots down any chance of a Wolverine return in the MCU

You may recall a few short weeks ago there was a rumour that Hugh Jackman might be teasing a return to his most iconic role… Wolverine/Logan.

The star put out a couple of images on social media, one of him with Marvel boss Kevin Feige and another of the muscular arm of Wolverine with the adamantium claws protruding (here) but it seems that no, this was all a misunderstanding.

“I’m going to tell you that you guys, you comic book fans, are too quick for me,” Jackman says in a new interview.

“That was a very innocent repost of some cool art, and I do it quite a bit. And I think I was with my family or had people over or something, and was away from my phone and when I came back, I was like, ‘What have I done!? I didn’t mean to do that!'”

“That was just fan art, I’m really sorry guys. And I was like the horse has bolted, I don’t think anything I say now will be able to calm this down. But it was just you guys are too quick for me.”

Aw man, we were so sure too…

Going on in the interview, the star was asked if he saw any way he might appear in the Multiverse now that it’s a fully-fledged concept in the movies and shows (it’s been rumoured for a while that he might) but, alas, the star has shot it down outright: “There’s nothing in my inbox from Kevin Feige [so that] means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table.

“I realised, before we shot Logan… I was like, we got the idea, we knew what it was going to be-ish, right? And I thought, ‘This is it’. And that really helped me.

“It really helped knowing I was going into my last season, that it was my last season, that I made the most of it. And it’s still a character I hold close to my heart. But I know it’s done.”

He went on: : “Tell that to whoever you want, but please tell it to Ryan [Reynolds] because he doesn’t believe it – he thinks I’m joking!”

Fans will know that Ryan Reynolds has been pushing for a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover movie forever but Jackman wants him to know that it’s not happening… we doubt Reynolds will let it go at that, though.

And neither will we. Jackman has become synonymous with Wolverine and if there’s even a chance that we could see him return in the Multiverse, well, we’re going to push for it… after all, we could see a story set before the events of Logan that would still allow the character that heartfelt sendoff.
