We’re not going to gloss this up too much – we weren’t big fans of the Agent Carter TV series.
There, we said it. However…
We do LOVE Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, especially in the MCU movies. We just felt she wasn’t given the series she deserved in the standalone series.
The actress herself has said recently that she’d love to see Peggy back in a future MCU movie or, even better, in her own movie: “I’d love to see [Peggy] more in films. I’d love to see her in her own film. And if we can keep evolving it so that she does new things so that I can surprise myself and she can keep surprising me then I’d love to do it. And I feel very privileged to be part of something that people really love and that entertains them.
“But also, you’re going to these conventions and meeting people who’ve named their son Carter and people who have a tattoo of “I Know My Value,” the tagline. She’s a force of good and there are a lot of social media sites where girls and guys have come together and become good friends on an international scale because of their belief in some of the values that Peggy talks about. And that provides them with a different connection that a family situation or school situation that they don’t really feel they have a place in. That’s really cool to me. So I’m very happy to be a part of that world and keep that going.”
honestly, we’d be very surprised if we saw a standalone Carter series, but we wouldn’t be at all surprised if we saw her return in a future movie.
And, funny enough, it looks like that part at least may actually happen:
The images above feature Atwell last week at Marvel Studios HQ with co-president Louis D’Espinosa, who shared them on his Twitter. The first image is in D’Espinosa’s office, with the caption: “Look who came by to visit today.”
While the second read: “Standing in front of one of my favorite murals with one of my favorite people, Hayley Atwell.”
Now, of course this could mean nothing, however, with Ant-man and the Wasp now in production (remember Atwell appeared in the first movie in a flashback?) and also with the details on the Captain Marvel movie revealed at SDCC stating that it would be set in the 1990s (here) and will feature a young Nick Fury, we’re guessing that Carter is more than likely to appear at some stage soon.
She’s an oddity in the MCU as we’ve seen both her beginnings and her end but we know here story is still to be properly told. We look forward to meeting her again and finding out more details.
Do you?
