James Gunn has finished the script for his Superman Legacy movie and things are starting to move already.
Marking the 85th anniversary of Superman’s first appearance, the writer/director and co-head of the DCU, Gunn posted an image of the finished script on social media, below, writing: “I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than Superman Anniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on Superman Legacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running.”
When the new DCU was introduced back in January, Gunn’s other co-head of DC, Peter Safran, said that Superman: Legacy was at the heart of the whole thing: “As we craft the plan for DC Studios, we are thrilled to share with fans the first 10 stories they can expect from the unified DC Universe featuring some of our most well-known characters as well as the next generation of marquee characters.
“Chapter One tells cohesive stories that highlight love, compassion, and the innate goodness of the human spirit, all designed to minimize audience confusion and maximize audience engagement across platforms.”
Gunn himself added: “Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe.
“Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world. I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
Gunn recently announced that the first officially dive into the new DCU will be the animated series Creature Commandos which will arrive next year and will feature, among many other great names, Frank Grillo and Alan Tudyk; Gunn has previously said that he aims to cast actors that can portray the characters in live-action, animation and in games, which is an idea I love.
So stay tuned, it looks like big DCU and Superman news is coming faster than… well, you know the rest.
