James Gunn says the MCU will tell the origins of Rocket Racoon

September 12th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Who wants to know the history of Rocket Racoon in the MCU?

If your hand is in the air right now then have we got good news for you… we WILL see Rocket’s creation in the MCU at some point.

Fans will recall that Rocket hinted at his unpleasant creation in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie but the writer/director, James Gunn, has said that that story will be told at a later stage in the Marvel cinematic story.

Speaking at Hasbro HasCon, Gunn said: “We are going to learn more about where Rocket comes from in the coming sagas. It’s going to be a little different from the comics. We already know a lot about from where he came from. It’s a little bit more horrible than what it is in the comics when you come down to it.”

Rocket was created to guard a colon full of mentally ill inmates in the comics, so this could be a dark chapter for the MCU.

Obviously we’ imagine this will be told in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, but given that the Guardians are coming to earth in Avengers: Infinity War, we’d say all bets are off as to where – or when – we’ll see this story told.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
