Get ready for the new daily show

James Gunn’s Suicide Squad will take the franchise in a whole new direction. Sigh.

February 1st, 2019 by Marc Comments

So we found out yesterday that James Gunn was in talks to direct – as well as write – the next Suicide Squad movie and now we have an idea what type of movie we’re getting.

So, the movie “is not being labeled a direct sequel but as a relaunch.”

So it’s not a sequel to Suicide Squad but will be instead have a new cast – likely some faces will return, we’d bet on Margot Robbie and Will Smith as Harley and Deadshot – but for the most part it’ll be all new faces.

Oh, and it’ll have a different tone/direction than David Ayer’s movie which still had the Batman V Superman tone: “Sources say that Gunn’s focus is to take the franchise in a new direction with a mostly all-new cast of characters and actors.

“Sources also say that the project is also very much rooted in Gunn’s vibe, as seen in the Guardians movies.”

Sigh.

We loved Guardians and liked Guardians Vol 3 but they are NOT Suicide Squad and should not share themes or tones.

The recasting doesn’t bother us as the nature of Suicide Squad is a revolving team, bit otherwise we’re getting Josstice League vibes. And we all know how that turned out…

In top of this, word is that Warners offered Gunn any of their characters including – you guessed it – Superman.

Gunn was interested but in the end really only liked Krypto… so word is he may have been involved in the Super Pet movie. Click the link above for more on that.

Thoughts?

The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
