OK get ready for the fan rage… Jesse Eisenberg admitted to Digital Spy a while back that he is not a fan of comics even though he is playing one of DC’s greatest villains, Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman.

The actor comes however is confident in his portrayal of Luthor: “I don’t have expectations for myself to adhere to a comic book character, but a lot of people are interested in how I would coincide with the comic book character. But it couldn’t be farther from my mind, because I’m just playing a role… It’s a really great character that’s written by this guy, Chris Terrio, he’s a phenomenal writer… He loves my character in the same way I love my character. He put a lot of work into it. It’s a great character, there’s an emotional core to the character. It’s not this silly, villainous character. This is a real depiction of a person who thinks these things. So the challenge is to make it seem real.”

Talking about the Donner version of Luthor, played by the great Gene Hackman, Eisenberg is quick to point out the tonal differences between the characters and movies: “The tone of that movie is so different, that movie wouldn’t be made that way now. The way we expect movies to be now, which is for the best probably, we expect there to be some kind of psychological accuracy. That the person is coming from a place that’s probably diagnosable in some ways. This is not [a winking, knowing movie], this is a real depiction of a person who thinks these things.”

So there you have it, not that we needed to be told, but the Donner movies and Batman V Superman are polar opposites and, while many fans don’t like the ice of the darker, more realistic Superman, I , for one, love this take on him…

But I want to know what you all think. Let us know in all the usual ways, guys

He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
