February 20th, 2018 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Well, we all knew the Losers’ Club would return…

According to movie industry bible Variety, the Oscar nominated actress Jessica Chastain has joined the cast of the second Part of Stephen King’s IT; Chastain has been circling the role of Beverly Marsh for a while… and it now looks to be official

Sophia Lillis played the character in the first instalment, which made over $700 million at the world wide box office after its release in September 2017 and the casting of Chastain is the first major piece of news release about the much anticipated sequel.

Chastain was long rumoured to be in contention for the role and confirmed her interest in playing the adult Beverly in interviews last year on the proviso that her schedule should allow.  The actor is a friend of and has collaborated with the director of IT (Andy Muschietti) on the horror movie “Mama”.

Well, I love Andy and Barbara [Muschietti],” said Chastain: “I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, ‘Mama.’ His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so…We’ll see…They’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.”

Muschietti has also spoken of his admiration for Chastain and said he would love to be able to cast her in the movie

“Jessica is an amazing actress and a very good friend and I would love her to play Beverly,” he said.  “She loves the movie and it feels like the planets are aligned in that sense, but we still have to make that happen. There are a lot of ideas for the rest of the cast that I’m playing with.”

IT: Chapter 2 will be released on September 6th, 2019
