JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot developing Justice League Dark movies and TV shows

Oooooooh… so it looks like we’re finally getting that Justice League Dark movie we’ve been waited for for, what, four years?

So, the movie, which was originally meant to be helmed by Guillermo Del Toro (can you IMAGINE?!!) is finally going ahead at Warners Bros/DC, but this time it’s in the hands of JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot.

The project, originally entitled Justice League Dark Universe, will now, according to the new report, be not just a movie but also TV projects.

Bad Robot’s Head of Motion Pictures Hannah Minghella and Head of Television Ben Stephenson will soon be taking meetings with talent reps and their writing clients on which characters will get their own projects.”

Justice League Dark is a corner of the DC Universe that sees darker heroes such as Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatana, Dead Man, Etrigan the Demon and, had the DC Universe Swamp Thing went on for more than one season, we would have eventually seen the team created on the small screen.

Like Joker, Justice League Dark could be a real game-changer in the comic book universe and would lend itself to the more adult side of the fandom, while tapping into the true horror aspect of the DC universe.

Honestly, this is a project I have been excited for for a long time and, while JJ Abrams is no Guillermo Del Toro, it will be exciting to see what Bad Robot can do, especially if it breaks new ground and tells a tale on the small and big screen at the same time.

It’s a dark world out there and most comic book movies only scratch the surface… so this could be a brave new (dark) world.

What say you all? Let me know your thoughts.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
