Kevin Williamson shares heartfelt tribute to Wes Craven as Scream VII begins filming

Well, it took longer than expected but Ghostface is finally back!

Yes, the long-overdue and highly anticipated Scream 7 finally started filming yesterday in Atlanta and writer/director Kevin Williamson, while hinting he can’t reveal anything about the movie or the studio(s) might shout at him, took to social media to give us our first look at the movie’s logo:

Reuniting original Scream stars Neve Campbell and Courtenay Cox as Sidney and Gale, the movie will also see the return of a host of familiar faces from across the franchise’s history as well as new faces, including Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire stars McKenna Grace and Celeste O’Connor.

Writing on the post, Williamson couldn’t contain his excitement, saying: “I’m not supposed to post about Scream and I hope @spyglassmediagr and @paramountpics will forgive me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself.”

Scream VII films next year but is eighth movie already being developed?

He goes on: “What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their “A” game and had my back every step of the way.”

He also paid tribute to the late, great Wes Craven, horror mastermind and director of the first three Scream movies, saying: “I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and to Wes Craven who was on my mind through it all. The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day! I can’t wait for tomorrow! #scream7”

I make no secret of my massive love for the Scream franchise, so having Campbell and Cox back along with creator and writer Williamson has me really excited for what’s to come and I’m hoping a lot of the things we fans have hoped for over the years come true – yes, the return of Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher is one of them, I am a Stu Believer lol – and I really have the feeling that just as he started the series, Williamson might have plans to end the story definitively.

Well, until Ghostface pops up again, of course.

Thoughts.

“Stu is still alive…” Matthew Lillard prepping us for a Scream VII return?!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
