So while we’re all losing our minds over the possibility of an Obi-Wan standalone movie (or trilogy!) we haven’t given much thought about who might be in it.
We pondered before if we may see Rogue One characters Baze and Chirrut in the Obi-Wan movie already (here) but perhaps the most obvious inclusion is the one we hadn’t even thought of… Qui-Gon, played by Ireland’s own Liam Neeson.
At the end of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith Yoda told Obi-Wan that he was to go into hiding and learn the lessons Qui-Gon has been teaching him (Yoda) – presumably as a Force ghost – how to survive death and be able to interact with the living… and we know both Yoda and Obi-Wan learned how to do it as shown in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Currently doing the tour for his new action movie, The Communter, Neeson was asked if he would be back for the Obi-Wan movie (if it happens) and, while in the dark, he definitely seemed up for the return: “This is the first time I’m hearing of [it]. No one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible.
“In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died, but we know – you know – Jedi come back and stuff but no one’s been in touch. We’ll see.”
Of course Neeson reprised the role of Qui-Gon briefly already when he visited Obi-Wan in The Clone Wars (clip below)… but wouldn’t it be fun to see Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon together again only this time echoing Luke and Obi-Wan?
Yes. Yes it would.
