In case there was any doubt, Robert Downey Jnr wants it known that he is done with the MCU.
The star, who kick-started the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man in 2008 and has been a cornerstone ever since, saw his iconic character of Tony Stark/Iron Man killed in Avengers: Endgame however, despite this, fans seem to live in hope that he may return. It is, after all, comic book story-telling.
However, Downey Jnr is having none of it.
Appearing on Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes’ SmartLess podcast, he made his feelings quite clear, saying “That’s all done”.
“As far as I’m concerned,” he went on, “I hung up my guns and I’m good to let it go.
“I also think that Marvel is on this journey now, they’re trying a bunch of other stuff and you know, I’m excited for them to see how all that goes.”
This seems to fit with his recent displeasure to hear that he may still appear in the upcoming Black Widow movie, despite working a day on the set.
When he was asked about his (reported) appearance in the movie, he said: “Right. Great. I mean, it would be nice if they notified me. Forewarned is forearmed. They can do anything now. This could be a deep fake interview for all we know.”
Ooof!
Sounds like he’s done and done when it comes to the red and gold armour… but, hey, despite it all, I’d still not rule out seeing him back at some point in the future.
Anyway, what say you all? Let me know, gang.
