We already know that next Christmas we’re getting James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (here) but it seems that Marvel/Disney may have their eye set on other major holidays with a Marvel Halloween Special apparently in development.
Disney is looking to cast a Latino lead in the special which, although unsubstantiated, is looking to be a scary/spooky adaptation of their Werewolf by Night series – interestingly, it was in this title that Moon knight, now a Disney+ series starring Oscar Isaac (here), first appeared.
The series currently features the character of Jake Gomez, a member of the Hopi Native American tribe who all are cursed with lycanthrope… yes, they’re werewolves. And, they’re in the middle of a conflict with a pharmaceutical company who are exploiting the tribe and their abilities.
This is actually a very fun idea and could be a great way to bring new, more ‘out there’ characters into the MCU as we all letting Marvel firmly establish themselves as a cornerstone of all the major holidays… it’s also a great way of bringing that more scary Marvel characters to life – remember, Blade is coming with vampires and What If…? is bringing us zombies, so there’s nothing off the plate at this time in the MCU.
Here’s hoping we see them doing something similar with Star Wars… a Death Troopers Halloween Special, anyone?
I’m here for it.
Let me know what you all think.
