During a panel for the Television Critics Association for her work on the Showtime series Work in Progress, Lilly Wachowski has addressed the talks of her coming back to work on the new Matrix project that Warner Brothers have been working on for a few years.
Unfortunately, that half of the directing duo are currently too busy with their other works to even think of coming back and doing another right now, with works like Sense8 on Netflix and Work in Time, the director simply has too much on her plate to be involved: “Well, I’m a little busy at the moment,” she said to /Film.
“I like it when stories go out into the world and then come back to you in different ways,” Wachowski said.
“I mean, that’s what storytelling is all about. I’m part of a bigger thing. I don’t have any ownership over stuff like that, so whatever story anybody wants to tell, I can’t wait to hear. I hope it’s better than the original.”
This all had to be cleared up after an interview with Chad Stahelski, a stuntman on the Matrix movies and Director for John Wick was speaking hypothetically on the matter but never actually mentioned this to the interviewer.
With Zak Penn (Ready Player One) tasked with writing Matrix 4 which is said to not be a remake or a reboot but instead to be its own thing, nothing much else is known at this point apart from speculation.
But we can speculate that if Stahelski gets hired as the director, especially after his work with Keanu on both the Matrix and John Wick, then it’s not unlikely to think that he could bring him over with him for some part in one way or another, maybe even as the new architect, who knows.
