Continuing a longstanding (well, three seasons) arrangement, it looks like Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will link into the latest Marvel movie release with season 4 – which starts tomorrow night.
Executive producers Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon have been pointing out that the inclusion of Ghost Rider in the new season links into the magical side of the MCU – and therefore, it links to Doctor Strange: “Our ties are at times very direct and at times are more thematic. The tie this year will feel more of a reflection of the movie, less an interweaving plot. As that movie hits the world, it comes at the right time in our show, and you will see some of those same ideas being explored.”
They also pointed out that there will be issues raised in SHIELD that could also bleed into Strange: “Doctor Strange will introduce some new ideas, but we’re starting to lay the first brick in the yellow brick road to that. We want to slowly play with the morality of building these things, whether or not we even should and the scientific questions that come along with it. [That’s] the first step that we explore before we inevitably get into other things.”
We still don’t buy that the TV Universe and the Cinematic Universes are tied together as much as Marvel want you to believe, but we would love to be proved wrong…
