It’s happening.

Ladies and gentlemen, Stephen King’s follow-up to The Shining is coming to cinemas.

I’ll just let that sink in for a minute.

Yep, the Greatest Horror Movie Of All Time That Isn’t Alien is to get a sequel. In this era of awful spin-offs, terrible remakes and atrocious sequels, you’d be forgiven for thinking that making a follow-up to one of Stanley Kubrick’s masterpieces is the worst idea since someone at Fox decided to do another Fantastic Four movie just to keep the rights out of Marvel’s hands. But wait, there’s more! The film will be an adaptation of King’s Bram Stoker Award-winning 2013 novel Doctor Sleep, which featured the now grown up Danny Torrance and his encounters with other psychics capable of manifesting the Shining. Although there’s no word on a director at this stage, Akiva Goldsman is set to produce the screenplay. We’ll provide you with more info as and when we know it, but with the right director this could be fantastic.

Here’s hoping that Goldsman’s got his Beautiful Mind thinking cap on for this job, not his Batman & Robin one…

He has been a self-confessed geek for as long as he can remember, having been raised through the 80s on a steady diet of Doctor Who, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and (sigh) Knight Rider. Throw the usual assortment of Saturday morning cartoons into the mix and we have something quite exceptional: someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of utter tosh; a love of giant robots and spaceships fighting; and the strange desire to leap tall buildings in a single bound while wearing his underpants over his trousers. The death ray is currently in the works and one day you shall all bow to him, his giant space station and fleet of funky orange space shuttles...
