It is official. I have now heard everything.
New Line is building on its recent success with horror films by purchasing a script from screenwriter Mike Van Waes for… “an original horror film set in the world of The Wizard of Oz.” No, you didn’t mis-read that. A horror film set in Oz.
Now, anyone who has ever seen Return to Oz will know that there’s already been some fairly freaky crap set in L. Frank Baum’s far-away land. But an actual horror movie? Seriously? Wowsers. Did someone seriously just watch Emerald City and think, ‘nah, needs to be more brutal’?
New Line have been making a killing (no pun intended) over recent years through relatively low-budget horror movies, with The Conjuring series, Lights Out and the upcoming Stephen King adaptation It being stand-out examples. But this is just a strange one. More info as and when we know it, but… wow.
I blame Riverdale for this…
