In one of the most ‘but why?!’ bits of news you’ll hear this year, it seems there’s a remake of 2011’s The Raid coming.
The remake of the jaw-dropping Indonesian action movie will be overseen by either (probably) directors Michael Bay and Patrick Hughes with original movie director Gareth Evans attached this time as and exec producer.
The remake is going to be exclusively for Netflix.
While the original movie was set in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, this remake will be set “in Philadelphia’s drug-infested ‘Badlands” where an undercover DEA task force climbs a ladder of cartel informants to catch a kingpin”.
According to producers, the remake will be “a distinctly original take on the material, which promises to pay great respect to the original film while also bringing a fresh approach and perspective that will set its own course in the action genre.”
A remake starring Frank Grillo, directed by Joe Carnaghan was scrapped in 2017 but it looks like it’s back on with a different director at the helm. Wonder will Grillo return?
Anyway, what do you think? Would you watch a remake of The Raid? Frankly, I think the original is a stonecold classic with some of the best fight choreography ever put on film so this very idea seems crazy.
Thoughts?
