A Youtube video (below) by Daniel Richtman is starting to shed some light on the upcoming Batman movie with Robert Pattinson directed by Matt Reeves.
In the video we find out: “The Batman will explore a detective case when people start dying in strange ways, Batman must go deep into the dark world of Gotham to find clues and solve the mystery/conspiracy connected to Gotham City’s history and criminals, in the film, all of Batman Rogues Gallery are already out there and active, similar to the comics and animated shows/movies. The film will have multiple villains, as they are all suspects.”
Now this would be interesting as the Rogues Gallery haven’t been used in any DC movie yet, basically it’s the name given to the group of villains who oppose Batman in Gotham, these include everyone from Deathstroke and the Red Hood, Killer Croc to Hush an everyone in between.
This being said, a lot of people are thinking this new Batman will be based on the Year One graphic novel for his origin story, while Reeves himself has come forward and said this isn’t the case: “Year One is one of the many comic books that I love. We are definitely not doing Year One. It’s just exciting to be focused very specifically on a tale that is defining for him and very personal to him. Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that. We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though, and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love the Batman.”
So we’re getting a new story, not directly based on any of the comics that we can see but at the same time still using some of those nuances that you can only find in a Batman comic.
Like most people, I was against Pattinson as The Batman at the start, however the more I’m hearing about it and possible cast members are making me lean to towards changing my mind, so I think it would be best for all involved not to pass any judgment until the movie’s done, because I think everyone’s going to be pleasantly surprised.
