Great news for the Ghostbusters fans on here – so, all of us – as the new Ghostbusters movie, codenamed Firehouse (here), has a director locked in and it’s getting ready to film next Spring (here)!
Co-writer of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Gil Kenan, has signed on to direct the fourth movie in the series with Afterlife director Jason Reitman producing alongside Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld.
“It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” Kenan says, “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.”

Reitman, son of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman, said of the new movie: “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1, and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side.
“It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.”

The new movie is expected to have Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore as the head of Ghostbusters Inc (here) and it will see the return of Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolkhard and McKenna Grace, making it a true legacy sequel and the next step in the evolution of the Ghostbusters.
Netflix making new Ghostbusters animated series
“Jason and Gil have been so awesome about talking about it and collaborating, and yeah… They’re just kind of hammering away at it, and so I’m excited to do it,” Wolfhard said of the new movie, while Grace had this to say: “I’m constantly pressuring Jason Reitman, I’m always trying to figure out what the story is. I literally have no ounce of a clue what the story is.
“If I knew about Ghostbusters, I’d be sitting here, and I’d be like, ‘I have no clue, and it’s driving me nuts.’ I’m just excited to do a second one. I’m just excited to be Phoebe.”
To say we’re excited to see where Ghostbusters goes next with the new cast – and Winston at the helm – would be a criminal understatement.
Ghostbusters Firehouse is expected to arrive in cinemas on December 20th, 2023 – that’s less than a year, fact fans!
