Get ready for the new daily show

New Harry Potter movie(s) in the works? And Fantastic Beasts 3 to start filming soon

Two interesting bits of news for fans of the world of Harry Potter today.

First up – and I must stress this is a rumour only for now – is news that we may be on the cusp of a new Harry Potter movie as Warner Bros and JK Rowling may be looking to bring the West End and Broadway show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child to the big screen.

The story is a sequel to Rowling’s seven books (eight movies) and sees the new generation of Potter characters – Albus Potter, Scorpius Malfoy and Cedric Diggory getting into a new magical shenanigans. However, because if it being a two-part stage show, unless you’re a fairly wealthy individual who lives near London or New York, you’re likely not to have seen it and the script book, i’m assured by my son who is a massive Potter fan, isn’t very good.

But the big news is that, as per the rumour, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are all in talks to return as Harry, Ron and Hermione for the new movie.

It could also mean that, like Deathly Hallows adaptation, this could be another two movies, which would be an almost certain money-grabber for Warners, while giving fans what they want. The best of both worlds?! Egads, can such a thing exist?! Well, yes.

While there’s no way to know for sure, I would guess that if this IS happening, it’s likely a reaction to the disappointing reception to the more recent Fantastic Beasts movie, The Crimes of Grindelwald, with Warners, who have already promised three more Fantastic Beasts movies, wanting to get the fans back in a Harry-Potter-state-of-mind. That said, the reason Grindewald didn’d do well is because, unlike the first movie, it’s not very good.

Anyway, speaking of Fantastic Beasts, this leads us nicely into the second bit of Potter-related news as actor Dan Fogler, who plays Jacob Kowalski in the Fantastic Beasts movies, has revealed when the third movie is set to film.

The movie, like the first two Fantastic Beasts movies, will once again be written by Rowling and directed by David Yates and was pushed back from November 20th, 2020 to November 12th, 2021.

But when does it film? well, at LeakyCon 2019 in Boston, Foggler said: “We haven’t started filming yet. We start in February. Last we heard, JK… she’s been writing furiously, everyone was really happy with what she submitted, and we’re all just waiting for the new script. And that’s where we’re at.”

The actor says he hopes in the next movie Jacob is reunited with witch girlfriend Queenie, played by Alison Sudol, who joined the ranks of dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, Johnny Depp: “I hope that he gets Queenie back. … I haven’t seen a script yet, and I’ve lost a significant amount of weight, and I think it will be funny if — you know how she put a spell on me to follow her around like a puppy? What if she also put a spell on me to get fit?

“So there’s that. But also, on a philosophical level, it’ll be interesting… We’re in the middle of the Depression, he’s just on a bender of loss. He lost he … I’m just saying this is the thing that I have in my head, that he’s lost his appetite.”

While I was disappointed with the second movie, I will still be looking forward to the third instalment.

So, what say you Potter fans? Good news all round? Chime in…
