New Matrix writer says it is NOT a reboot…

March 18th, 2017 by Marc Comments

A few day ago the story broke that Warners were looking at making a new Matrix (yay!) but that it may be a reboot (No!).

Now, however, it looks like our hopes (another Matrix movie can be a fresh story but in the same universe) have come true as the man writing it, Zak Penn, writers of X-Men: Last Stand, Avengers and Elektra, has taken to Twitter (all his posts are below) to put everyone’s fears at ease.

Penn refers to The Animatrix – the Manga inspired series of animated shorts that came out with the Matrix movies and told stories within the Matrix story but nit featuring the core characters – and the X-Men universe, specifically things like Legion, Logan and Deadpool which expend the core X-Men universe.

So, what is he telling us? Well, the quote: “All I can say at this point is no one could or should REBOOT the Matrix. People who know Animatrix and the comics understand” is probably the one at the core of his point: he aims to write a Matrix movie that will likely not feature Neo, Morpheous or Trinity but WILL take place in theMatrix.

It looks like it is taking its cue from things like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s all about universe building these days folks.

And we’re not only ok with that, we’re genuinely pretty stoked.

What say you all? A Matrix movie that runs alongside the original movies? Would that be cool with you?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
