Nightwing director Chris McKay gives casting and filming update…

November 6th, 2017 by Marc Comments

When it was recently revealed that The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay was set to direct a Nightwing movie, there was a flurry of excitement.

McKay certainly knows his stuff, having recently said of the character: “All of Robin/Nightwing’s successes and failures (in the comics) we were along for the ride. And people that underestimated Robin or dismissed him perhaps had their opinions changed as we watched him “grow up” right in front of us. His relationships, his conflicts with Batman et al felt real to me because he was the window character with which we experienced Gotham City.”

But now McKay has taken to Twitter to reveal some cool details about the movie. Or rather about the casting and filming.

He revealed that the casting will begin soon, it will be an open casting and, so long as the script is ‘crazy great’ filming could begin next year.

We reckon the comments on the casting could be tied to Power Rangers and Stranger Things 2 star, Australian Dacre Montgomery teasing on Instagram that he’s up for/interested in/likes Nightwing.

So is Sandberg basically telling us that no-one has been cast so don’t be jumping to conclusions? We think so…

He also showed he’s a BIG comic nerd… Danny the Street? How many of you would catch that reference?

Anyway, check out how it all unfolded below and let us know your thoughts or, even better, who you’d cast as Dick Grayson/Nightwing for the DC Cinematic Universe.

Here’s the breakdown of the reveals:

When pressed by a fan, he also said that, providing the script is ‘crazy great’, production should start next year:

When one fan asked about an obscure character from Doom Patrol called Danny the Street, a living street (yes, really) who movies around towns and cities appearing solely to make people happy by creating drag strips, theatres, shops, whatever he thinks people would like – oh, and he’s apparently a cross-dressing street who likes dressing his shops in frilly awnings and curtains on gunshops etc. You need to read this page because Danny also becomes Danny the World and Danny the Brick. For the record, we’d watch the heck out of a Danny the Street movie… anyway:

Proving that he knows his stuff, McKay replied:

Then when asked if Nightwing would be an open casting (rather than an actor already in mind for the role):

McKay replied:

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
