Paul Feig would be happy to release his 3 1/2 hour cut of Ghostbusters 2016

Oooooook… so, how to approach this story, huh?

While many of us are celebrating the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, formerly The Snyder Cut, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call writer/director Paul Feig, probably in jest, has suggested that he would be happy to share his three and a half hour cut of Ghostbusters with the world too.

Interestingly, fans – and, em, non-fans – will know that there actually IS a three and a half hour cut of Answer The Call – there’s actaully a longer one too.

When Ghostbusters: Answer the Call hit cinemas it was 116mins but when it was released on home release it had and extended cut that ran at 134mins and included the full dance number and various extended scenes, but even at that, Feig has teased that there was a much, much longer version out there.

“The editor’s first cut was 4 hours and 15 minutes,” Feig said at the time, “and I trimmed that down to a slim 3 and a half hours. We generate a lot of stuff and I always wanna have all the underpinnings of a big, emotional story, and because of that it just added a lot of extra scenes that as you’re going through, you know you have to make a lot of choices because I knew I had to bring this down under two hours.”

It’s interesting that in his Tweet, while I do suspect Feig is saying it in jest, he says he’d be “happy to share with you”, which got me wondering… could we actually see this appear online or on a streaming service in the near future?

Let’s be honest, with everyone sitting at home mostly now, releasing this when we should all have been getting ready for the pushed back Ghostbusters: Afterlife, would actually be a smart move… it would likely get quite a few watches (heck, I’d watch it for sure (here’s my original review of the movie), so I’d not entirely rule this out as potentially happening.

What do you think? Would you want to see it? Would you watch? Let me know your thoughts, gang…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
