For many (including myself proudly) Power Rangers was a way of life in childhood and possibly to adulthood. So with the series now 20+ years strong, many were interested when a new live-action movie based on Power Rangers was announced. Furthermore, it was revealed the film wouldn’t be a reboot, just a different story of sorts that respected continuity.
Despite some stumbles and departures (and delays) the movie is set for a 2017 release. Director Dan Israelite chatted about what he’s seen in the script and what we can expect. He stated: “I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that’s essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it.”
When asked about when we might hear about casting for the Power Rangers (or villains), he had this to say:
“Yeah, I hope so. We’re just at the beginnings of that. We’re going to be shooting soon, so yes, I’m hoping news of that is going to come out in the next few months.”
The project looks to be full steam ahead then. I can’t wait for this Power Rangers movie to arrive in theaters so I can shout, “It’s Morphin Time!”
