So while everyone else was thinking that the Star Trek movie franchise may be in trouble without Chris Pine’s Kirk, it seems that producer Adi Shankar isn’t too bothered.
With the news last week that both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth had left Star Trek 4, it seemed that maybe a new take on the franchise was needed.
But, nope…
Producer Adi Shankar seems to be of the opinion that Chris Pine isn’t necessary for a fourth Star Trek, saying: “Losing Pine and Kirk is not a big deal and kind of cool. Actors don’t matter, stories do. This is the universe presenting an opportunity to do something different and boldly go where no suits have gone before.”
Ok, so we get the whole angle that actors can be replaced and franchises will keep going but we’re fuzzy on the whole idea that we don’t need Kirk on the USS Enterprise…
But the Star Trek franchise – well, the JJ Abrams Kelvin Timeline at least – continuing without Kirk could create an interesting set of story possibilities.
Thoughts?
