Well, it looks like everyone was wrong about a big cameo in this summer’s highly anticipated horror sequel 28 Years Later.
The sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later and 2007’s 28 Weeks Later sees the first movie’s director Danny Boyle return to the series which reinvented the zombie genre in the 2000s – we know, they’re not technically zombies – alongside stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes to tell the continuing story of a world pulled asunder.
However, since the movie was in production, original movie star Cillian Murphy – it was the movie that made him a star by the way – was rumoured to be appearing in a cameo, setting up a bigger role in the fourth movie, The Bone Temple but it seems that nope, this simply isn’t the case but the door is still open.
Danny Boyle, Alex Garland and Cillian Murphy all confirmed back for 28 Years Later!
In a new interview, producer Andrew Macdonald discusses Murphy’s involvement but breaks the back news: “We wanted him to be involved and he wanted to be involved. He is not in the first film, but I’m hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line.
“He’s involved at the moment as an executive producer and I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future in the trilogy.”
The new movie is the planned start of a trilogy of movies and, if it pans out, it seems Murphy will eventually return as Jim.
Well, this does suck a little as I was convinced, as were others, that Jim would appear in the new movie and yes, it’s possible that Macdonald is trying to put us off the scent but whatever happens, it certainly seems like they are trying to get him involved and if the new movie is half as good as the new trailer makes it look, I think there’s little doubt we’ll be getting that planned trilogy.
Thoughts? I know you have them…
28 Years Later runs into cinemas on 20th June.
