We’ve known for some time that Sony was developing a Kraven: the Hunter movie to slot into their Spider-man/Marvel universe and now we have him.
We learned recently that it looked like Keanu Reeves (here) may be set to play the role in an adaptation of Kraven: The Last Hunt – a story about Kraven, a big game hunter who has killed dangerous creatures all over the world, who decides that he wants one last kill… the Spider-man – however, Reeves wasn’t interested in being in the movie.
Then we learned that A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier’s director, JC Chandor, would be helming the movie (here); we also learned some time ago that the movie would feature Spider-man – presumably Tom Holland’s version – going up against the hunter (here).
And now we learn that Avengers: Age of Ultron Quicksilver star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, left, has been nabbed to play the Spider-man villain, joining Venom and Morbius in Sony’s ever-expanding universe.
The actor has signed on for multiple picture deal, meaning we may see the character appear in his own movies as well as other’s in the Sony universe – perhaps we’ll see him in one of the Venom or Morbius movies or in one of the others in development including Dusk and Spider-woman.
The movie will be penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway with Richard Wenk writing the screenplay.
This creates a little bit of a conundrum for the MCU with Johnson having previously played Quicksilver as the Sony movies are now connected to the MCU, meaning that he will be two prominent characters in the same reality – it’s unlikely to be an issue as we’d imagine when Johnson bulks up and takes on the persona, he’ll look nothing like Quicksilver, but its’s still interesting to see him in two big roles.
Anyway, what say you all? Is he a good choice for the gig? Let me know your thoughts, guys.
This means the current Sony Marvel slate looks like this:
VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE (9/24/21)
SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (12/17/21)
MORBIUS (1/28/22)
INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE 2 (10/7/22)
KRAVEN THE HUNTER (1/13/23)
