So, a few day s ago X-Men: First Class (not for nothing but it’s my favourite X-Men movie) director Matthew Vaughn saw Josh Trank’s very secretive Fantastic Four movie. And he was quite reserved when he talked about it.
Vaughn said: “I’ve seen the movie. It’s good. I thought Chronicle was a fantastic movie and [Josh] Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four. If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this. We’re all backing Josh Trank’s vision. And hopefully the world will like Josh Trank’s vision.” Source: Cinemablend.
Now this worried us (even more than we already were for this movie) for a few reasons – it’s “good”? Hardly high praise for the movie.
“Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four”. Wait, we want Marvel’s Fantastic Four. Don’t we? Yes, we do.
And finally “If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this.” This sort of implies that Trank’s movie is very similar to Chronicle and what if you didn’t like Chronicle? For the record, we did like it but still, this worries us.
So, anyway, then today, things came to light that reinforces what we have been thinking.
According to Bleeding Cool, high-up people at Fox are calling the movie “Chronicle 2 rather than Fantastic 4″, which is NOT what Fox wanted and the site are also reporting that a studio senior executive said the movie was “a mess”.
Gulp.
Apparently now the studio is demanding reshoots at the cost of millions of dollars to try to pull the movie together more and they have reportedly rebuilt sets in Louisiana. It’s worth noting that noting that Badass Digest are reporting that the reshoots were part of the production plan all along.
Even if that is the case, to quote one of our favourite franchises, “I have a bad feeling about this…”
Is that just us?
UPDATE!!!: Add THIS to the fun ladies and gentlemen! The trailer for the film is set to release with Fox’s The Kingsmen. Which is interesting given how Fox feels about this movie apparently. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out once the trailer releases!
