Any Alien fans in the house tonight?
Did you think that the dream of more xenomorph chaos was over once Disney bought over 20th Century Fox? Well, Ridley Scott, director of the first Alien movie and 2012’s Prometheus isn’t giving up yet.
Speaking to the LA Times, Scott made it quite clear that 2017’s Alien: Covenant (which, let’s be honest, was pretty dire) – in his opinion – shouldn’t be the end of the story.
“I still think there’s a lot of mileage in Alien, but I think you’ll have to now re-evolve,” Scott said.
“What I always thought when I was making it, the first one, why would a creature like this be made; and why was it traveling in what I always thought was a kind of war-craft, which was carrying a cargo of these eggs. What was the purpose of the vehicle and what was the purpose of the eggs? That’s the thing to question — who, why, and for what purpose is the next idea, I think.”
Personally, I much rather have the xenomorph as an unexplainable monster waiting in space to destroy and conquer any and all species it comes across. But, hey, maybe that’s just me.
Scott confirmed last year during the original movie’s 40th anniversary that he was set to direct a third prequel, following Prometheus and Covenant, however, that was before the Disney/Fox merger, so who knows what the status of that is.
Although reportedly an Alien-related TV series is still in the works with Scott showrunning… but who knows what’s happening with that now.
Who wants more Aliens? Do you? If so, let us know in all the usual ways…
