So, we’re sure you all recall over the period of SDCC there was a lot of talk about Ben Affleck stepping down as Batman in the DC Cinematic Universe before the actor himself poo-pooed the whole thing (here).
Well, needless to say we’re all still pondering if he really will stay and if so, what’s the plan moving forward?
Now according to a report from Superman news site Fortress of Solitude, it seems there’s a bigger plan for the future of The Bat.
A plan that includes Terry McGinniss, the Batman of the Future or Batman Beyond as he’s called in the US.
They report that a source at Warners tad them: “Yeah, he [Affleck] is staying on as the Batman. There were contract issues, but everything’s sorted now. He’ll do Reeves’ trilogy which sets up Batman Beyond, which will be the next phase of the DC film universe.”
Now, we have to stress that, at the tine of writing we don’t expect there to be any real merit to this story… however, if they did decide to put someone else in the cape and cowl when Bruce reaches retirement age, we’d have expected Dick Grayson (we know Nightwing is coming) or Damien Wayne (you never know, in this universe Damien and Talia could be out there) or – long shot – how about Jean Paul Valley?
That said, for a long time we’ve wanted to see Batman Beyond realised on the big screen and we could certainly imagine a older Ben Affleck mentoring a younger Batman on the big screen.
In all honesty, the more we think about it, the more excited we get… you never know, maybe this really was the plan behind casting an older actor from day one?
