Aw man… I was really starting to have my faith in Star Wars restored and then I heard this.
So, look, I know the fandom is divided over this, but I rest in the camp that The Last Jedi was not just a bad Star Wars movie, but a bad movie, period. And The Rise of Skywalker wasn’t much better.
But with The Mandalorian, Clone Wars and Fallen Jedi Order anf the news of an Ahsoka Tano series and the upcoming Obi-Wan series, it really seemed like all hope wasn’t lost… just like when Star Wars debuted in 1977.
But, according to this rumour, Lucasfilm is still set to make Last Jedi writer and director Rian Johnson’s standalone trilogy of movies.
However, the next planned movie – set for December 2022 – will not be Johnson’s but rather will be Taika Waititi’s entry in the franchise with with Johnson’s trilogy kicking off around December 2024.
“From my source at Lucasfilm, the Rian Johnson Star Wars films are still on track and will be released after the Taika Waititi Star Wars film.”
Ugh.
Personally, I have my doubts that Lucasfilm/Disney will be still pursuing Johnson’s trilogy – even if you’re a fan of The Last Jedi, having someone so divisive given a further three movies (and not just one) seems like a bad idea.
Anyway, let me know all your thoughts, gang and remember, the Force will be with you… always.
