Russo brothers: “We may have already ‘met’ The Punisher in Captain America The Winter Soldier”

A very interesting little tidbit raised its head at the weekend as Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo were once again talking about the movie and hinted that we may have already met one Frank Castle.

Talking to Comingsoon, the pair dropped a little nugget of gloriously tantalising information. It turns out that twice in the movie the heroes are saved by a yellow truck:

The presence of the same truck TWICE at vital times may not have been a simple coincidence or mistake: “The man who drives that truck,” says Joe, “Is very highly trained. He thinks on his own terms. He’s got a plan and a very specific skill set.”

Now that could mean it’s either Liam Neeson from the Taken movies (I’m actually ok with that) OR it’s Frank Castle AKA The Punisher. The character of Castle in the comics was a former soldier whose entire family was killed by the mob and who then dedicated his life to becoming an unstoppable killing machine – kind of Batman if Batman were a bloodthirty murderer who will use anything to kill the bad guys.

The Punisher has been made into three movies so far, but none were by Marvel directly and the rights are back where they belong now so it’s entirely possible, nae likely, that we’ll be seeing Castle very soon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (we reckon it’s very possible he’ll be in the Netflix Daredevil series)…

Also, anyone else think Liam Neeson would be an AWESOME Punisher? No, just me? Maybe 15 years ago…  Ah well…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
